Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer - Symptoms

What are the symptoms of ovarian cancer?

Early-stage ovarian cancer may not cause any noticeable symptoms. Symptoms are usually attributed to other more common conditions and may only be noticed when the cancerous tumour has become quite large.

Some of the symptoms include:

  • Constant discomfort or a feeling of ‘pressure’ in the lower abdomen (pelvic area)
  • Persistent bloating in the abdomen
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Quickly feeling full when eating
  • Increased urinary frequency
  • Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation or diarrhoea

When should you see a doctor?

Make an appointment with your doctor if you have any signs or symptoms that worry you.

It is important to see a doctor if you notice persistent, unusual changes in your body, as ovarian cancer can develop gradually over time. If you experience ongoing discomfort in the pelvic area, abdominal bloating or other unexplained symptoms that do not improve, seeking medical attention is crucial.

Early diagnosis of ovarian cancer can make a significant difference in treatment success so do not delay a visit if these signs continue. Additionally, if you have a family history of ovarian cancer, regular screenings with your doctor are essential even if symptoms are mild or absent.
