What side effects can
Paclitaxel
cause?
During infusion
- Allergic reaction is rare, but may occur.
Please alert your nurse if you experience any shortness of breath, chest discomfort, flushing or itching during the infusion.
Early side effects
- Mild nausea and vomiting may occur
There are medications available, which may prevent or decrease these side effects. If you are given these medications, take them as directed. - Diarrhea
- Joint and muscle pain or weakness.
Delayed side effects
- A drop in the white blood cell counts may occur 7 to 14 days after treatment.
- Temporary hair loss may occur several weeks after treatment.
- Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on fingers and toes.
Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:
- Fever of 38°C or higher.
- Sore throat, voice hoarseness or mouth sores.
- Skin rash, itching or unusual redness.
- Unusual bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools.
