Carboplatin

Early side effects

• About 6 to 12 hours after treatment, mild nausea and vomiting may be experienced, which may recur for several days.
  There are medications available, which may prevent or decrease these side effects. If you are given these medications, take them as directed.
• Allergic reactions may rarely occur after repeated exposure. Please inform the nurse immediately if you experience any of these symptoms during infusion: shortness of breath, warm sensation, rash, itch, swelling, chest or abdominal discomfort.

Delayed side effects

• A drop in the blood cell counts may occur 7 to 14 days after treatment.
• Hair thinning may begin several weeks after treatment.
• Numbness or tingling sensation in the hands and feet.

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

• Fever of 38°C or higher, chills or sore throat.
• Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet that interfere with daily functions, or ringing in the ears.
• Unusual bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools.
