
The Respiratory Therapy (RT) Unit - housed under the Department of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine at Singapore General Hospital, plays an extremely essential role on Outram Campus. The small team of Respiratory Therapists provides round-the-clock world class care for patients who need respiratory support.
The team manages critically ill patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit/intermediate care area, and general ward patients who need less acute respiratory care and support. It is also involved in outpatient services e.g., Sleep Disorders Unit, Chronic Noninvasive Ventilation (NIV) Clinic.
Our Services
- Mechanical ventilator management in Medical and Isolation ICUs
- Mechanical ventilation support for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- High flow nasal cannula, noninvasive ventilation (NIV)
- Chronic continuous positive airway pressure/NIV
- Chronic ventilator management, including patient and caregiver education
- Airway support in code blue and rapid response activations
- Tracheostomy care and follow up with multidisciplinary tracheostomy team

- Overseas clinical attachment for college students majoring in respiratory care
