The Laboratory Haematology service works closely with our clinical service to provide a range of general haematology and specialized haematological tests essential for the diagnosis and monitoring of haematological disorders and general patient care in other disciplines. The laboratory supports other Singhealth centres and polyclinics as well as private institutions.
Routine haematology investigations include:
Full blood count
Peripheral blood film
Blood clotting screening test
The specialized coagulation laboratory performs screening and diagnostic investigations for factor deficiencies, and inhibitor detection, von Willebrand's disease and platelet function testing for workup of patients with bleeding disorders. For the assessment of clotting disorders, tests such as protein C and S, antithrombin III and lupus anticoagulant are offered. Tests for quantitation of anticoagulation levels for patients taking traditional and newer blood thinners are also performed in our laboratory.
This section performs investigations to identify abnormal haemoglobin and thalassemia through the use of high-performance liquid chromatographic analysis and gel electrophoretic methods.
Examination of the bone marrow aspirate is used to evaluate the type, quantity and maturation features of blood cells in the bone marrow. Special stains may be used to help with the diagnosis of new leukaemias.
This section provides diagnostic and disease monitoring tests using flow cytometry for blood cancers and other haematological conditions. It also performs minimal residual disease testing for assessing treatment response in blood cancers.
We provide immunophenotyping panels for:
The haematology molecular laboratory provides state-of-the art molecular testing for haematological conditions. This includes PCR – based testing for molecular markers in chronic myeloid leukemias and the myeloproliferative disorders as well as for acute leukemias and genetic testing for haemophilia and thrombophilic disorders. The laboratory also offers next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel testing for myeloid disorders.
The stem cell processing and storage laboratory processes bone marrow and peripheral stem cells product purposed for haematopoietic stem cell transplant and cellular therapy. It also has cryopreservation and storage facilities as well.
