Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Biologics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) is an area of interest in the recent Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) field. It has emerged as a tool to understand and predict patient's response to biologic treatment. TDM provides better guide on therapeutic decisions regarding biologic escalation, withdrawal and switch. Hence, it helps to optimize the biologic therapy and provides personalized treatment. Various factors affect TDM implementation in practice as well as results interpretation. This lecture aims to discuss the strategies of using TDM in the IBD management, review biologic TDM interpretation, explain the practical issues of TDM use as well as discuss current and future roles and opportunities of TDM use in patients receiving biologic treatment.
