Our Services
Orthotic Services
Orthosis is a device applied directly and externally to patient body with the objective of supporting, correcting or compensating for a deformity or weakness.
The orthoses we are specialise in:
- Custom-made orthoses
- Lower limb orthoses: shoe modification, foot orthoses (FO), ankle foot orthoses (AFO), knee orthoses (KO), knee ankle foot orthoses (KAFO), Hip knee ankle foot orthoses (HKAFO), fracture orthoses (PTB brace, IWKAFO) ….
- Upper limb orthoses: wrist hand orthoses (WHO)
- Prefabrication (Off-the-shelf) orthoses
- Lower limb orthoses: AFO, hip brace, knee brace
- Upper limb orthoses: thumb spica, wrist brace, elbow brace, shoulder brace, arm sling ….
- Spinal orthoses: back support, lumbar sacral orthoses (LSO), thoracic lumbar sacral orthoses (TLSO)….
- Cervical orthoses: rigid and soft cervical collars
Common problems prescription where patients may need an orthosis include:
- drop foot following stroke or nerve injury
- fracture management
- Leg length discrepancy/shortening of leg
- management of joints weakness and deformities for polio, stroke, CP, club foot, SCI, MD, MS, scoliosis
- pain management for Rheumatoid arteritis, Osteoarthritis
- sport related lower and upper limb injuries
- chronic wound and deformities of diabetic foot
Prosthetic services
Prosthesis is an artificial replacement or externally applied device used to replace wholly or partly an absent or deficient limb segment.
For people who had amputation as a result of traumatic injuries, vascular disease, tumour, infection (severe case of diabetes) or congenital deformity will be benefited from prostheses as it regains the function and appearance as a full or partial missing limb.
We specialise in fabricating prostheses for:
- Lower limb amputation
- Partial foot
- Below knee
- Above knee amputation
- Through knee /Knee disarticulation
- Hip disarticulation
- Upper limb amputation
- Partial hand
- Wrist disarticulation
- Below elbow
- Elbow disarticulation
- Above elbow
- Shoulder disarticulation
Our greatest achievement on prostheses is fabricating Direct Socket for below knee amputation and above knee amputation (BKA &AKA). The socket is using lamination method and fabricate directly on the patient. It takes less than 2 hours for the Direct Socket system to fabricate and fit the device.
Amputee Clinic
The clinic runs every Tuesday afternoon at the P&O clinic. We run clinic together with Rehab Medicine Doctor, Speciality Nurse Clinician, Physiotherapist and Medical Social Worker.
We work with interdisciplinary team to provide a rehabilitation service for pre-prosthetic and prosthetic stages as well as long-term follow-up of individuals with upper and lower limb amputation.
Along with an interdisciplinary team, we work together in following areas:
- Assessing a suitable level of prostheses for patient’s needs
- Submitting application form to MSW for funding status if patients have any financial difficulties in paying for their prosthetic limb.
- Take a cast of patient’s stumps after funding secure
- Modification, fabrication and fitting of prostheses
- Work closely with Physiotherapists to make any necessary adjustments to patient’s prosthesis during gait training.
- Check out and delivery the prostheses to patient after satisfying with gait and alignment
- Planning for further follow up
- Prosthetic adjustments, repairs, re-alignment, and componentry upgrading due to rapid growth rates or change in shape and size.
WALK Clinic
The clinic is run every Monday and Tuesday morning. We work with a podiatrist for wound and offloading treatment to patients with neuropathic ulcers.
Area of treatment:
- Biomechanical examination for an ideal insoles or footwear prescription
- Neurovascular assessments for patients with diabetes and other chronic wound conditions.
- Offloading recommendation on insoles, footwear or shoe modifications/other devices
- Appointments for review to prevent re-ulceration
