What Can I Expect?
An overview of what you can expect during your antenatal visits is provided in the table below. Your doctor will discuss these in greater detail with you during your appointments.

First Trimester

- Ultrasound scan to screen for fetal anomalies
- Oral glucose tolerance test to screen for maternal diabetes

Third Trimester | - Review of your symptoms
- Assessment of your blood pressure, weight and urine
- Ultrasound scan to check baby's growth (Optional 3D/4D scans are available on request)
- Vaginal swab to screen for Group B streptococcus

What Should I Bring?
For your first visit, please bring along your NRIC (Singaporeans) or passport (non-Singaporeans) as well as any referral letter and test results that you have.
For subsequent visits, please bring along your pink card (antenatal hand-held notes), as well as any ultrasound or blood request forms that your doctor has given you.
Where Should I Go?
Your antenatal visits will be conducted at our newly-renovated Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre, located at Block 5 Level 1. Doctor's visits, ultrasound scans and blood tests may all be done at this convenient one-stop centre.

What Should I Go?
Please come to the Labour Ward if you are pregnant and >20 weeks and have
- Abdominal or contraction pain
- Vaginal bleeding
- Leaking of water
- Reduced or no baby movements
- Headache or blurring of vision
The Labour Ward is located at Block 5 Level 2 and is open 24 hours. You may also contact the attending midwife at 6321 4520 if you are unsure if you should come to the Labour Ward.
What Can I Expect?
You will be assessed by the midwives and doctors on duty. This may include a vaginal examination, ultrasound scan and/or monitoring of the baby's heartbeat. The team will then advise you on your subsequent management.
Highlights of our Labour Ward include
- Cosy and recently renovated delivery suites
- Upgraded electronic monitoring systems for fetal and maternal surveillance during labour
- 24-hour medical, neonatology, anaesthetic and operating theatre support
Husbands are encouraged to support their wives during labour and delivery. Please note that for infant security and the privacy of labouring mothers, no other visitors are allowed in the delivery suite. If your husband is not available, a female companion may be nominated to accompany you.

- Original marriage certificate, if you are planning to register your baby's birth at SGH

What Can I Expect?
We are a BFHI (Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative) accredited centre and will encourage mother and infant bonding by*
- Skin-to-skin contact for an hour immediately after delivery
- Allowing baby to initiate the first latch in this hour
- Transferring mother and baby together to the postnatal ward
*These steps may vary depending on the condition of the mother and baby
Rooming in with your baby is encouraged to promote bonding, faciliate breastfeeding and enable you and your partner to gain confidence in responding to your baby's cues.
Our lactation consultants and nurses will visit you in the ward after delivery to assist you with latching and other breastfeeding issues.
Infant bathing will be carried out by your bedside and our experienced neonatal nurses can guide you in giving your baby his or her first bath.
Our physiotherapists will teach you useful postnatal exercises to help in the recovery of your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
We also have a delicious and nutritious confinement menu to aid you in your post-natal recovery.
