Denosumab is a medication given to reduce bone breakdown, thus lowering the risk of broken bones or cancer-related bone pain.
It is available in two brands, with different uses. Do not use the two brands interchangeably unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
Xgeva® is used to treat giant cell tumor of bone or conditions where cancer has spread to the bone.
Prolia® is used to treat or prevent osteoporosis.
Denosumab is an injection given under the skin (subcutaneously) at the upper arm, upper thigh or abdomen.
The interval between each injection you receive depends on what you are being treated for. Your doctor will inform you accordingly.
Do not shake the vial or syringe vigorously.
If you miss a dose, receive it as soon as possible by rescheduling an administration date with your clinic.
