Current professional interest is in the field of Critical Care Nephrology, Blood Purification, acute renal replacement therapy, artificial liver support and cytokine immunomodulation in severe sepsis. MARS liver dialysis at SGH was started up by Dr Tan Han Khim in 2002/03 as a pilot project to treat acute liver failure patients in collaboration with the General Surgical and Gastroenterology/Hepatology departments. MARS has now become standard artificial organ support in the intensive care units at SGH available to critically ill patients where indicated.
