Dr Jerry Chen is a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore General Hospital. His clinical interests include hip and knee conditions, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), robotic surgery and joint replacement surgery including partial knee arthroplasty.
He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Orth) from Edinburgh. He currently spearheads the workgroup for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) for knee replacement surgery in Singapore General Hospital, which has successfully improved the patient’s journey after total knee replacement, making it a day surgery procedure instead of the routine 4-day hospital stay. More recently, he has incorporated the use of wearables after knee replacement surgery to allow patients to monitor their own recovery progress postoperatively.
He is a member of the Singapore General Hospital Ageing Peak workgroup, which strives to improve patient’s functional outcomes after geriatric hip fracture surgery and knee replacement surgery. He is also part of the taskforce in charge of prostheses and orthoses in Singapore General Hospital, as well as NSQIP which performs regular audit of surgeries done in Singapore General Hospital.
Apart from his clinical duties, Dr Jerry Chen is also actively involved in research and education. He has published 80 scientific papers and book chapters, as well as serve as an invited reviewer for several top-tier international Orthopaedic journals. He conducts webinars for Orthopaedic surgeons in the region, sharing with them his surgical experience in minimally invasive and computer-assisted joint replacement surgeries. He is also privileged to have serve as co-convenor for previous final year medical students’ MBBS Examination.
