Profile

Dr Chan Ching Yee graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2008. Whilst in medical school, she was the top student in otolaryngology, placed on the Dean’s list in her final year and graduated second in class and second in surgery with distinction. For these, she received the Singapore Society of Otorhinolaryngology book prize, Singapore Medical Association Bronze Medal and 2nd Mekie Book Prize respectively. She entered Otolaryngology residency in 2011 and received the outstanding resident award in 2012, 2013 and 2016. In 2015, she received the outstanding chief resident award.

After residency, she joined the Department of Otolaryngology at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in 2017 and has since been promoted to senior consultant. She received the human manpower development plan scholarship from the Ministry of Health in 2020 and embarked on a Paediatric Otolaryngology fellowship with McGill University, Canada, from 2020 to 2021. Since her return, she started an endoscopic ear surgery service to benefit patients with chronic ear disease and early cholesteatoma. She also started a hearing disorders clinic, drooling service and dizziness and balance service for children where she collaborates with allied health and other departments to provide multidisciplinary care. Her clinical and research areas of interest include congenital hearing loss, hearing screening, hearing loss genetics, hearing implants, chronic ear disease, congenital CMV, balance disorders in children and paediatric airway.

Clinical work aside, Dr Chan contributes to teaching the next generation by being residency core faculty and organised the nationwide paediatric otolaryngology teaching module. She was also co-course director of the microtia and hearing implants course in 2023, invited faculty at the endoscopic ear course and temporal bone course, and invited speaker in local, regional and international conferences. Of note, her submission to the American Society of Paediatric Otolaryngology combined spring meeting in 2023 won the first prize in the basic science category. In 2018, she received the best poster award at the 7th Asean Academy of Neuro-otology and Audiology Congress. She has published in several prominent otolaryngology journals which are outlined below.
