A/Prof Jon Yoong is Senior Consultant Physician in the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, Singapore General Hospital (SGH RHI). He began his training in Rheumatology and Immunology with the London Deanery in St George’s Hospital and University College London, United Kingdom, before returning to Singapore. He is alumni of Harvard Macy Institute, Harvard University.
Dr Yoong has published in Singapore and international medical journals including The New England Journal of Medicine in 2006 and again in 2008. In close collaboration with Professor E. Armstrong of Harvard Medical School, one of the highlights of his work in education was a large inter-departmental, cross Academic Clinical Programme effort with SGH Departments of Hand Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery that resulted in an oral presentation in Harvard University’s Annual American Medical Education Conference.
As the Department’s Director of Medical Student Education and Clinical Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore, Dr Yoong is committed in developing and refining undergraduate rheumatology curriculum in SGH. He leads the way in which Rheumatology is taught by embracing AI and cloud-based learning for all three Singapore Medical Schools namely Duke-NUS, Yong Loo Lin NUS and Lee Kong Chian NTU. He is course director for the well-received department’s annual Rheumatology Review Course for final year medical students.
SGH RHI is poised to maintain the delivery of rheumatology education through hybrid models developed by Dr Yoong and his department colleagues which involves theory e-learning, virtual clinical teaching and standardised true patients, nimbly adapting to various levels of safe-distancing measures, should those be required at any time.
