For simultaneous detection of cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, varicella-zoster virus and Toxoplasma gondii. This test is especially useful for limited volume samples (e.g. eye fluid, CSF).
(a) Vitreous or eye tap: As much sample as possible. Collect sample in a sterile leak-proof container or in a syringe with needle removed. (b) CSF: At least 0.5 mL of undiluted sample in a sterile and leak-proof screw-capped container without any additives. (c) Swab for vesicles: Use Dacron-tipped swabs. Sample base of lesions vigorously and send dry in swab sheath. This test has not been evaluated for use with swab for CMV and T.gondii.
Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach the laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
