STOOL ELASTASE

Specimen Required

​One teaspoon or about 10mm3 of stool in a clean leak-proof container with a tight-fitting lid. 
Stool mixed with transport media, preservative or urine is unsuitable for testing.

Storage and Transport

​If it is not possible to despatch the stool sample to the laboratory within the same day, the sample should be kept at 2-8oC in the refrigerator.

Test Results

​Reported as Normal, Moderate Low or Severe Low with value and reference range.
Concentrations of Pancreatic Elastase 1 are reported in µg E1/g stool.

Remarks

​The Pancreatic Elastase 1 concentration may be lowered in watery stool. In the event of pathological results for watery stool samples, confirmation testing, using formed stool samples, is suggested.
