Description

​Hepatitis C antibody screen

Hepatitis C antibody supplementary test

Specimen Required

​5 mL plain blood.

(a) Order Anti-HCV Supplementary test only if HCV antibody screen is reactive.  

(b) If the first sample is negative for hepatitis A, B and C markers, send a second sample 3 – 6 months later for Hepatitis C antibody screening to exclude acute HCV infection.

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate samples if delay in transporting to laboratory is anticipated. Do not freeze.

Anti-HCV Supplementary test: Line Immunoassay

Test Results

​See laboratory report for result interpretation.

Turnaround Time

​Anti-HCV screen: <1 – 2 days

Anti-HCV Supplementary test: 1 – 8 days

Day(s) Test Set up

​Anti-HCV screen: Monday – Saturday

Anti-HCV Supplementary test: Every Wednesday (with completion on Thursday)

Remarks

​Reactive HCV screening result requires supplementary testing which is offered at the prevailing charge.

For SGH inpatients, Anti-HCV Supplementary test will be performed as a reflex test at the prevailing charge.
