Specimen Required

​Heparinised blood.

Collect 2 samples in heparinised capillary tubes of size, 1.1 x 7.5 mm. Protect from light.

Reference Interval / Value

0 – <1 day: 0 - 86 µmol/L
 
1 – 2 days : 0 - 122 µmol/L
 
3 – 5 days : 0 - 175 µmol/L
 
≥  6 days :  7 - 32 µmol/L

Phototherapy threshold limits are provided with the reference ranges. The limits listed below are only applicable to neonates born at full term gestation without risk factors and referenced to SGH Dept of Neonatal and Development Medicine’s policy on “Neonatal Jaundice”:

0 - 12 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 100 µmol/L.
13 - 24 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 150 µmol/L.
25 - 36 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 200 µmol/L.
37 - 48 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 225 µmol/L.
49 - 72 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 250 µmol/L.
73 - 96 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 275 µmol/L.
97 - 120 hr: phototherapy threshold limit is 275 µmol/L.
121 hr - 7 days: phototherapy threshold limit is 300 µmol/L.
8 - 14 days: phototherapy threshold limit is 325 µmol/L.
