6 key upcoming events in Academia that you need to know

Since it opened its doors in July 2013, Academia has become a hub of activities at SGH Campus. It is more than just a house for SingHealth's offices, laboratories and research facilities.

With its comprehensive medical training facilities, seminar rooms, recording and live-streaming capabilities, Academia has hosted and provided support for hundreds of events – from international conferences, workshops, town hall meetings and talks by distinguished speakers, to staff celebrations.

Here are some of the most exciting events that Academia will be hosting later this year.

1) 4th Japan-Singapore Inter-Professional Collaboration Symposium
1 July 2017


Themed "Diet, Health & Aging", the symposium will discuss dietary habits and measures take to manage diseases in Singapore and Japan along with sharing of the latest evidences from research in the field.  The Symposium will feature expert speakers from both countries

The Japan-Singapore Inter-Professional Collaboration (JSIP) was initiated by medical professionals from both countries to promote the exchange of information of aging population concerns.

The Symposium is open to all medical and nursing home professionals.

2) SingHealth Duke-NUS Surgical & Anaesthesia Congress 2017
4-6 August 2017 (workshops from 28 July)

The Congress will comprise more than 40 plenary sessions and multi-disciplinary symposiums for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. There will also be a series of procedural and team-based simulation workshops to hone skills held in Academia's medical education facilities.

Speakers include Professor Paris Tekkis from Imperial College London; Dr Archie Brain, inventor of the laryngeal mask airway and Professor Howard Levinson from Duke University.

The congress will bring the focus on cross-disciplinary care from the Surgical, Musculoskeletal and Anaesthesia disciplines.

3) 5th Singapore Rehabilitation Conference
7-8 September 2017

 
This year, the only general rehabilitation conference in Singapore and regionally held on a regular basis will focus on "Integrating Rehabilitation Care: From Hospital to the Community".
The conference's programme will not only cover the traditional fields of neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, but relevant contemporary fields in geriatrics and aging, cancer and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

4) 3rd SingHealth Duke-NUS Education Conference
29-30 September 2017


This landmark event in healthcare education, brings together educators and learners from SingHealth, Duke-NUS and other healthcare and academic institutions to learn and exchange best practices in teaching.

This year's highlights include a keynote lecture by Associate Professor Deborah Navendo of MGH Institute of Health Professions, USA and plenary sessions by Professor Ian Curran of General Medical Council, UK; and Professor Marilyn Baird of Monash University Australia.

The Conference aims to boost the exchange of ideas and forge collaborations to transform the way we teach and learn for improved patient care.

5) CLIC Conference 2017
23-25 October 2017

 

The Consortium of Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (CLIC) is a group of faculty from medical schools around the world engaged in the development and delivery of LIC programmes for medical students. This will be the first time the conference is hosted in Asia.

LIC is a clinical education model where students develop continuity of relationships with preceptors and patients, and gain integrated cross-disciplinary clinical experiences.

6) S3 Conference 2017
31 October – 4 November 2017


S3 is Asia's first collaborative simulation conference, bringing together some of the best minds from Europe, America and Singapore.

Hosted by the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation (SIMS), the S3 Conference 2017 is jointly organised by SIMS, Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) and The Gathering Of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists (SimGHOSTS).

Expect transformative sessions with international guest speakers, experience the latest in simulation technology, take in new ideas, share simulation best practices across borders, present ground-breaking simulation studies to fellow industry insiders, receive hands-on training in advanced simulation procedures at SIMS' simulation facilities in Academia, and more.
