SGH Emergency / NNI

The new SGH Emergency/National Neuroscience Institute building brings critical services closer together, enabling faster access for patients when time is of the essence. Before the building opens fully in 2025, patients with emergency needs should continue to seek attention at the SGH Emergency Department at Block 1.

On 11 December 2024, patient care services will begin with the opening of two Acute Medical Wards (AMW). Supporting services such as Pharmacy and Radiology will also commence operations to ensure care for these patients continue smoothly. 

On 16 December 2024, we will also transfer patients waiting for admission to a large purpose-built holding ward, located at level 4, Zone F (Observation) of the new building. 

When fully opened in 2025, these services will operate within the same facility:

  • Acute Medical Wards (Ward 86, 87, 88, 89)
  • Department of Emergency Medicine (Patients seeking emergency treatment to go to SGH Block 1 till the move in 2025)
  • Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology Facility 
  • Pharmacy
  • Outpatient Services - Neuroscience Clinic (SGH) and Neuro-Diagnostic & Therapeutic Centre (NDTC)
  • Mortuary
Visitors to Ward 86, 87, 88, 89 will need to register visitor information online prior to visits. 


The National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) Executive Office and Department Offices are located in the upper floors.

1. Shuttle Bus
  • Take the Blue SGH Campus Shuttle from Outram Park MRT Exit 6 or Exit 7. Alight at the SGH Emergency / NNI Building.
  • Shuttle bus operating hours:
    • Monday to Friday: 8am to 7pm
    • Saturday & Eve of Public Holiday: 8am to 2pm
    • Sunday and Public Holiday: No Service

For visitors to Ward 86, 87, 88, 89:
    • At Level 1 Lobby B, register by scanning the QR code.
    • Enter the gantry at Lobby B and proceed to the respective levels. 

    For visitors to Zone F (Observation):
    • At Level 1 Lobby D, take the lift to Level 4.

2. Walk from MRT Station
  • Alight at Outram Park MRT station. Take Exit 6.
  • From there, it's an 800m (or approximately 30min) walk along Eu Tong Sen Street and Kampong Bahru Road, continue past the Outram Community Hospital (OCH). The walk is unsheltered part of the way.
For visitors to Ward 86, 87, 88, 89:
    • At Level 1 Lobby B, register by scanning the QR code.
    • Enter the gantry at Lobby B and proceed to the respective levels. 

    For visitors to Zone F (Observation):
    • At Level 1 Lobby D, take the lift to Level 4.

3. By Car/Taxi
  • Use Kampong Bahru Road or Jalan Bukit Merah and turn into Hospital Boulevard. 
  • Follow the signs to enter the building (SGH Emergency/NNI). From there, you can enter the basement carpark or drop-off passengers.

    • Enter the gantry at Lobby B and proceed to the respective levels. 

    For visitors to Zone F (Observation):
    • At Level 1 Lobby D, take the lift to Level 4.

4. Walk from Main SGH Building

  • From the entrance of SGH Block 3, turn right and cross the road using the zebra crossing. 
  • Turn right and look out for signs pointing to “Lobby D”.
For visitors to Ward 86, 87, 88, 89:
    • At Lobby D, take the lift to Level 1.
    • Turn left towards Lobby B. At Level 1 Lobby B, register by scanning the QR code.
    • Enter the gantry at Lobby B and proceed to the respective levels. 

    For visitors to Zone F (Observation):
    • At Level 1 Lobby D, take the lift to Level 4.


FAQ

*Emergency Department (ED) will continue to operate at SGH Block 1, before its shift to the new building in mid-2025.*

The new SGH Emergency / NNI building is located alongside the main road of Jalan Bukit Merah, with its main entrance on Hospital Boulevard. When fully opened in 2025, it will house wards, clinics, offices as well as the SGH Emergency Department.

The National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) will also have its executive office there.
Phase 1 (Dec 2024)

9 Dec Pharmacy (8am - 6pm) at Level 1
11 Dec Ward 87 at Level 7 and Ward 88 at Level 8
16 Dec Level 4, Zone F (Observation) is the holding ward for patients admitting from ED who are waiting for beds in the wards
We are transferring all the patients from Ward 73 and 67B to a new ward operating in the new building. This is part of our ongoing commitment to providing the highest standard of care in a modern facility. Your care team will remain the same. Please be assured that your safety and well-being will not be compromised.
The visiting hours in the new wards are the same as all SGH wards: Every day, 12pm to 2pm and 5pm to 8.30pm.

Visiting hours in Zone F (Observation) is Every day, 12pm - 8.30pm.

The number of visitors to the ward is a maximum of two (2) visitors, excluding caregiver, at any one time during visiting hours – same as all SGH wards.

Parking is available in the basement car park at the building. Pick Up and Drop-off is at the entrance driveway of the new building at Hospital Boulevard.

The new building is not fully opened yet. So, food options are limited.

Drinks vending machines are available at Levels 4, 7 and 8 (public waiting areas).

For more food options, there are shops and cafes along Kampong Bahru Road.

For other 24 hours food option, you can also go to SGH Blk 4 where there is Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf café (closed for renovation until 14 Jan 2025), Triplets and 7-Eleven or FairPrice Xpress at Outram Community Hospital.

MRTs

We are located at Outram Park MRT Station.

Shuttle Service

SGH has 3 shuttle bus service traveling between the different institutions and 2 MRT stations and to Multi-storey Car park (H) at Macalister Road.

Wheelchair Shuttle Service

The complimentary Wheelchair Shuttle Service to/from Outram Park MRT Station is specially designate for wheelchair-bound patients seeking treatments at SGH Campus.
